The "Worker Bee Fence" community workshop and site-specific art installation on 07/06/2024 was inspired by the bee garden next to, and the members of, the Queen Elizabeth Meadows Community Garden. The newspaper print background included positive local stories from the Surrey Now-Leader Newspaper, where the paper mache mixture included petals from dandelions from the park surrounding the garden. Each print is of vegetation that grew in and around the garden, printed my the hands that grew them. The hexagon printing blocks were assembled onto the garden fence in a honeycomb pattern with yellow ribbon, and weather protectant sealer was applied to achieve the one season installation time.
After completing his Foundation Year at Emily Carr University of Art + Design, Carson submitted "Seal of Approval" Wax Stamped Skateboard, and "Transgender Visibility" Linocut Relief Print Bitmap Image, to the 2023 Student Art Show. The display was viewable from 08/19/2023 to 09/07/2023. You can view these pieces under the Mixed Media and Printmaking pages.
I attended a workshop on 10/05/2022 for an Indigenous Presence class (ECU FNDT 115), where I had the opportunity to make Indigenous Art Brushes. Incorporated into my brushes are fabric strips from my grandmother and sticks I found in nature. The bamboo, badger fur, as well as yellow and red sinew were provided by the Indigenous workshop leader who taught the suction method and seamless knot technique for attaching the materials. With three brushes per student, the collective class work was on display during November 2022.
